Sayzie Carr is an artist whose work encompasses painting, textiles and teaching.

After receiving a degree in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design, Sayzie began her career immersed in the New York City artworld. Granted a studio at PS 122, a vibrant community-run art and performance center in the East Village, she took advantage of the many opportunities it presented to help shape her career over three decades. As well as being dedicated to her ongoing studio practice of painting, she extended her skills to fabric design and found a niche designing and creating fabric sculptures, puppets, and costumes for theatre and movies, as well as painting backdrops and creating textile installations for displays, theatre, and promotional events. Over time, she combined her life-long love of textiles, sewing, and painting to make working with fabric her primary medium of artistic expression.

Now residing in Western Massachusetts, she continues her art and teaching, drawing inspiration from the natural beauty of the Berkshires. Sayzie has exhibited her work in numerous shows in NYC, UK, South America, and New England.  She has received fellowships from the MacDowell Colony and The Edna St. Vincent Millay Colony. She  has been teaching at Bard College at Simon’s Rock and Bard Academy as well as doing travelling workshops.
